NOIR : This name derives from the high
density of green oak trees with their thick, dark
and lingering foliage.
The region is by far the most visited region in
the department due to its numerous prehistoric
sites of worldwide reputation (Les Eyzies, Lascaux),
the medieval town of Sarlat, the châteaux
of the River Dordogne valley (Montfort, Beynac,
Castelnaud) and the walled town of Domme.
